Beaded String Curtains – Add a Spark of Color to Your Interior Design

By Ann

We all know what beaded curtains are. Basically many beads are stringed, one after another, on individual strings that form together a curtain panel. This exotic accessory can be used not only as a window treatment. It is also suitable as a room divider, as a decoration for doors and walls or as a cover of storage spaces.

Beaded curtains are available in a dazzling variety of models, colors and designs on the market. Beads of various sizes, shapes and colors offer countless possibilities of amazing combinations. Beaded curtains, besides creating a vivid, charming atmosphere, can also reflect the light coming from the windows in a wonderful rainbow effect.

beaded string curtainsThe good news is that you can find online (and also in local stores) not only classical beaded curtains, but also string curtains with beads. They are created by attaching beads at some intervals along the length of the strings. You can purchase such curtains, or, if the available models are not suitable for your specific decorating plans, you can make your own beaded string curtains.

First, you’ll have to acquire a set of string curtains (you can also make them yourself or use the existing curtains) and several dozens of beads. You can find in specialized stores different kinds of beads – made from colored glass, plastic, wood or bamboo, sometimes even crystal.

After choosing the beads according to the color of your string curtains, you can proceed to making the beaded string curtains. There are several ways of doing this. The easiest one is to make two or three knots on each string and place a bead above each knot (the knot will keep the bead in place). You can start by ‘dressing’ the bead on the string, then make the knot, then place another bead and so on. If you’re using this method, you should be aware that the knots will make your curtains a little shorter. Another way is sewing the beads to the strings. If the beads are small and delicate, the effect will be wonderful.

You can also make something even more original. Buy some fishing line (the length depends on the measurements explained below) and several hundred beads (the smaller they are, the more pieces you’ll need). The color depends on the design of the string curtains you plan to ‘personalize’. The plan is the following: you’ll insert, at regular intervals among the textile strings, several strings of fishing line. On the fishing line, you’ll place the beads – one after another. The result will be a mix between textile and beaded strings. If the texture and color are properly selected, you’ll create a fabulous curtain, where fabric and beads will be creatively blended, for creating a soft yet sparkling effect.

According to Feng Shui, when the light passes though a bead, it creates not only a beautiful glow, but also positive energy. Passing through beaded curtains is also considered to have a calming effect. By adding beads to your string curtains you can transform an original home decoration into a unique, fascinating one.
