How To Install String Curtains?
Now that you chose the color of your string curtains and you finally bought them, it’s time to install them! Of course, if you don’t feel comfortable holding a drill or a screwdriver, you can always ask a specialist to do it for you.
Or, if you like challenges, you can do it yourself. It’s not as complicated as it seems at first. So get ready, stretch your muscles (just kidding here) and prepare a few things. For properly installing the string curtains, you’ll need the following: a step ladder, a dust sheet, a hammer, a drill, a screwdriver, some screws, a few special hooks for curtain rods, some inserts, a plumb line or a string, a tape measure and a pencil. And, of course, a curtain rod or a thicker string, depending on how you want to hang the curtains.
Before getting started, hold up the curtains to the wall or the window frame and make sure that the bottom of the curtain is almost touching the floor. This is the first thing to consider when you start your measurements.
After assessing the right height, take the pencil and mark the location for the hooks. Make sure that you have a straight line and that you’ve got the coverage that you want with the curtains. If you’ll use a thicker string or a light rod, you’ll need to install two hooks, one for each side of the curtain. If you think you need a more solid rod, you might need three or even four hooks. So take the drill and make some holes for the inserts where you marked the location with the pencil. It’s safer and more stable this way, instead of hammering the screws directly into the wall. After you make the holes, hammer the inserts in. Next you have to put the screws in partway and then install the hooks. Then you can finish tightening them. Once you have your hardware up, you can go ahead and test it out with the curtain rod. Make sure you put the bar straight and that the length of the curtains corresponds with the distance between the floor and the hooks for the rod.
After you positioned the curtain rod and you made sure that it fits and looks good, take it down and prepare for the final step – attaching the string curtains to the rod and installing them where they belong!
There are two ways of doing this, depending on the type of your drapes. Many string curtains are made with a special header system from one single piece of material. All the strings are hanging from that material, which makes your task much easier – all you have to do is dress that header on the rod and you’re done!
But there are also some string curtains that require a different approach: being without a unifying header, it’s necessary to tie each string to the rod. Usually this type of strings has special loops at one side and you have to dress each loop on the rod. If there are no loops, you can make them yourself, it’s very easy.
You can also install some tiebacks if your string curtains will be used in a doorframe or as room dividers. This way, you can easily open the curtains anytime!
